5 Ways to Repurpose Your Food Scraps

Natural cleaner

Use it to make your own household cleaning product with citrus peel and a distilled white vinegar for a multipurpose cleaner. Check out our recipe here.

2022 was the year of getting rid of harsh, unnatural chemicals for your cleaning products, when Tik Tok reminded us of how good a bit of vinegar can be.

When I was recently down at my local chippy - he was using good old vinegar it to clean the glass.

Always test patch it first.

Do not use it on stone countertops or tiles.

Do not use vinegar on hardwood floors or no-wax floors.

Awaken with a Scrub

Coffee and scrub. Two words you probably didn’t think we’d mention in this article. But you can reuse coffee, and turn it into a scrub. Check out our recipe here.

Warming & Cosy Stock

Make your own vegetable stock from all your food scraps. Pop in some garlic, and some herbs of your fancy and boil for 25-30mins.

The good thing about making vegetable stock is that you can usually use everything up, and then decant it and save it.

Broth can be frozen and used for another meal.

The ‘ugly’ bits

Use up the ugly fruit and vegetables for soups and smoothies. They don’t need to be the fancy bits because it all gets blended up anyway.

Wormery /Composting

When you’ve completely exhausted all options. Pop it in the wormery or compost - and create healthy compost for your plants. Be sure to double check what is healthy and unhealthy for your compost or womery before adding to it.
